I see a lot of “I’ve been flying since you were just a wee lad” type posts here.
How is that a logical justification for not being held to what is still an incredibly lax standard? 25 ATC Ghosts? That’s incredibly lenient. If you’re anywhere near that number, then obviously your precious tenure isn’t helping you become a more responsible pilot.
Expert does not appear in the dictionary as “novice with just a shade more time under their belt.” The description has always said ‘rules will be strictly enforced’. Now that enforcement actually has some heft behind it, lo, a mighty clatter. I just don’t get it.
I got 8 violations when I first started flying, then I actually figured out what they were and stopped receiving them. It’s not hard. At the very least, if you don’t plan to stop getting them, then you have no business calling yourself an expert. That word has a meaning, and it’s not the same as “been around a long time.”
Grades are a measure of time spent flying. Now that we finally have some rules which account for skill and conscientiousness, instead of just time in the air, all those that clamor for Realism™ release a mighty roar, but consider what you’re saying. “I’ve been around a long time, so I shouldn’t have to worry about whether or not I still don’t know left from right, I still don’t know that number 3 isn’t number 1, I still think it’s okay to taxi first (at 50 knots) and ask questions later.” You want Realism™ when it comes to liveries, but God forbid accountability with flying come into play. [And, BTW, a real pilot who flouted the rules on a daily basis would be met with some form of recourse.]
25 ATC is an insane allowance. If you’ve reached that level, you clearly have no interest in improving, and no business in the same book as the word Expert, let alone the same sentence. That’s an incredible amount of ghosts. It would take me 25 more to reach that level. Don’t you start getting embarrassed around 10 or something and start to do something about it? When you hit 20, were you not thinking, “Maybe there’s something askew here”?
As to violations, I know there are people that have a lot more landings than me, but I have something like 1500 or 2000 landings or something. That’s 750-1000 violations! Considering you can only get 6 per flight maximum, it would take work to get to a 50% ratio. If you’ve been around that long and are still getting violations at that clip, apparently your tenure hasn’t made you consider improving your skill or conscientiousness. And, again, if that’s the case, you don’t belong on Expert.
Maybe now we can finally do away with the how-much-can-I-get-away-with games and go back to a real Expert server instead of Training Server Lite.
